Program History

The Minnesota Young American Leaders Program (MYALP) is proudly hosted by the University of Minnesota’s Center for Integrative Leadership (the Center). Launched in 2019 out of a partnership between the Center, Harvard Business School U.S. Competitiveness Project, and the Itasca Project, MYALP convenes every May and brings together leaders from across for-profit, government / public, and non-profit sectors who are committed to working across sectors to help their communities and our region prosper inclusively.

MYALP shares themes as well as selected faculty and content with Harvard Business School’s national Young American Leaders Program (YALP). The national Program grew out of Harvard Business School’s ongoing research on U.S. competitiveness and its foundational conclusion that cross-sector collaboration at the city level is key to advancing our shared prosperity. MYALP complements the national Program by providing an opportunity to focus more specifically on exchanging knowledge and tools to advance collaboration for shared prosperity in our cities, region, and across our state.

Unique to the Minnesota Program, participants will form working groups to develop a Minimum Viable Benefit (MVB) Project that will bring their particular strengths, networks and skills to bear to address a specific challenge for their city or across our region. Each MVB group will have the opportunity to continue to work on developing and launching their initiative after the Program with guidance from Program faculty and a senior mentor.
