In addition, the Program requires a significant amount of pre-reading and classroom engagement. Applications that do not meet the below qualifications will not be considered.

  1. A minimum of seven years full-time work experience. Work experience may be non-consecutive as long as the total full-time experience is seven years or more. (All work experience must be clearly stated on your resume or your application to be considered for the Program.)

    1. Successful applicants have experience of leading within and across organizations, with reputational or positional authority, to bring this experience, credibility, and connections to the Program and to their post-Program leadership networks. We have stipulated a minimum of seven years full-time professional experience, but this requirement is a minimum, with preference to be given to those candidates with greater experience leading
    2. Full-time work experience is defined as 32+ hours / week or 1 FTE per role, and can include paid internships.

Professional & Personal Aspirations

In this section, we ask about your professional and public interests, work, and aspirations. In your response, please be concrete – help us understand what you do in your "day job" and outside of it with specific language and examples.

Please tell us about your current role—be specific about how you spend your time and your responsibilities. (150 word limit)

Please tell us about your work and aspirations outside of your day job to contribute to society more generally, e.g., to your city, region, or community. We’re interested in your past and current work, e.g., volunteering, board service, personal projects, community engagement, as well in your public-oriented interests and goals even where you haven’t yet been able fully to realize them. (150 word limit)

(MSP Only Applying to One Program) Please answer the following question regarding why you have chosen to apply to only one of the Programs (Minnesota or national Young American Leaders Program):
Why would the Program for which you are applying better serve you, than the Program for which you aren't applying, in developing your network and ideas for contributing to public good in your city, community, region, or the state of Minnesota? (100 word limit)

  • For example, if you are applying to only the Minnesota Young American Leaders Program and not the national Program, how would the opportunity to connect with leaders across Minnesota (v. leaders from cities in different states) better allow you to contribute to public good going forward?

(Optional) What’s something you want us to know about you or your life experience that we didn’t ask? (100 word limit)
